A Quick List of guitar facts and terms to get you on your way to learning the guitar.

Terms

  • Chord – 3 or more notes played at the same time
  • Scale – A series of single notes, no set amount of notes in a scale
  • Arpeggio – A specific way of playing a chord, instead of strumming a chord, you play one note of a chord at a time
  • Dynamics – How loud or how soft to play
  • Tempo – The speed or rate of play

 

Basic Info

  • Frets are numbered from the head to the body of the guitar, whereas the 1st fret is the fret that is farthest away from your torso when holding the guitar, and the 2nd fret the 2nd farthest.
  • Standard Tuning for a guitar is High E, B, G, D, A, Low E
  • Written guitar music is called tabs
  • Most guitars have 6 strings but that is not an exclusive number
  • Learning to play guitar takes alot of time and practice.
  • An Amp is required to amplify the sound of an electric guitar, while an acoustic guitar does not require an amp.
